This attractive village is most famous for the wonderful views of the Cuillin Hills and, in the distance, the mountains of Rum and Canna.

It was from Elgol that Bonnie Prince Charlie sailed for Morar after a farewell dinner hosted by the MacKinnon Clan in what is now known as Prince Charlie’s Cave (a short walk south of the village). He thanked his host by giving him the recipe for the Scotch whisky liqueur Dambuie!
