Loch Ness is famed the World
over as the home of the Loch Ness Monster, known affectionately as
"Nessie". The Loch stretches 23 miles from
Fort
Augustus at its southern end almost to
Inverness, in the north.
It is said that the first record of "Nessie" was in the 6th century
when St Columba calmed the monster, after it attacked one of his monks.
Sightings of the monster became much more frequent following the completion of
the scenic western road in the 1930’s.
We will drive along the banks of Loch Ness where you will see Urquhart Castle,
a ruin of a substantial 13th century castle, which is a very popular place with
"Nessie" spotters.
