The village of Applecross has one of the most scenic positions in Scotland. Its remote location makes it a nature watchers paradise with red deer, pine marten, and otters all being local to the area.

St Maelrubha built a monastery on this bay in AD 672, declaring it a sanctuary for all fugitives. Until the new road was built in the 1970’s this was one of the most inaccessible areas in the United Kingdom.

A popular visit is to the Applecross Heritage Centre, which tells the story of this beautiful part of Scotland from the Mesolithic period to the present day. There are plenty of gentle walks and trails to follow allowing visitors to totally escape from the pressures of modern life. The Gaelic name for the area, ‘a Chomraich’, means ‘The Sanctuary’.
