Confusingly the Black Isle is neither an island nor black! This picturesque part of Scotland is actually a peninsula, which sits between Inverness, to the south and Easter Ross, to the north. Unspoiled by industry the rural landscape of the area is one of its main attractions.

Cromarty, which lies near the tip of the peninsular, is an almost perfect example of an 18th century Scottish Sea Port. You can step back in time with a wealth of preserved buildings to enjoy, including one of the oldest Protestant Churches in Scotland – Cromarty East Church.  The church shows us the changes that have taken place in Scotland’s religious congregations throughout the centuries.

The Cromarty Firth has long been recognised as a naturally defended deep harbour. Today it is a popular port of call for cruise liners and in recent times it has been home to service and construction yards for the North Sea Oil Industry.

The Black Isle is home to one of the most famous Highland Cattle shows in the country.
